Winter Stream Before & After

It has been a very busy week, preparing for a big celebration for my mom’s 80th birthday, watching over my broody hen and expecting chicks any day now, wedding shower here for one of my daughter’s friends, etc. But somehow, I’ve managed to get into the studio to work on the larger canvas. The version on the right was my original concept. After sharing the image with a couple of trusted painting friends, I decided to simplify the foreground even further. It is difficult to know when a painting is finished! Let me know your thoughts on this one: I love getting your comments.

  1. Fabulous colors. I’d need to see this one in person to get the full effect. But simplifying the foreground helps to delineate the ground from the sky and provides a wintry starkness to the scene. A good change I think. Very enjoyable to look at.

  2. Wow! Your technique of blending colors and creating soft transitions in the sky is fabulous. So glad you are working in oils.

  3. I agree with the others. The colors are fabulous and quite original. They are on the edge of poetry – so suggestive of our inner reactions as well as the scene itself.
