I’ve been thinking about balance in my artwork and my ‘juggling act’ of life lately. My last post I talked about how I make sure that I make time for art. I’ve done that this past week or so, largely because of deadlines. But I think that my daily living has really also inspired me to work at my art. One big project going on here on the ‘farm’ is creating a new planting bed on the border of the fence between our house and the front pasture. I think you can see the scale in the photo below… It is a Very Large Area. This weekend was the culmination of months of planning, shopping and decision making: We finally took out what seemed like miles of sod & planted! Setting out the plants with thoughts toward variety, repetition, texture, color and balance was a challenge. Now I can’t wait to see it all grow up & fill in!

I also delivered my Door Show #5 painting to Mary Lou Zeek Gallery, along with this painting for the exhibit in the gallery. The show opens on Tuesday, with an artists’ reception Wednesday, May 4, 2011 from 7-9 pm. My door will be on display at Olivia’s 315 Chemeketa St. NE, Salem OR 97301. If you can’t make the reception, it will be there until May 28!

I was sorry to hear the news of all the devastation in the south with the massive tornado storms they’ve been having. I’m hoping for their recovery & strength during this crisis. My painting is en route to Tuscumbia, Alabama for the Watercolor Society of Alabama’s 70th Annual Exhibition. It will be on display at the prestigious Tennessee Valley Museum of Art from May 15- July 8, 2011.

I also received an acceptance this week to the Pike’s Peak Watercolor Society’s International Watermedia XVII exhibition, juried by John Salminen. The show runs June 24 through July 23 at the Cottonwood Center for the Arts, Colorado Springs, Colorado. I’m honored to be included!

This video had me thinking more about balance. I found it quite inspiring…. it really gives you a big picture.
