today

We’ve been snowed & iced in with two extra teenagers here, my daughter’s boyfriend stranded on his way home to Oakland and my son’s girlfriend from Eugene. All that young chemistry and parents galore to stop it! I sent them all out sledding last night at about 9 pm. They came home cold & tired and fell into bed exhausted! (I hope)

For them, because I remember what it was like to be young & in love, here is an excerpt from Walt Whitman:

“I Sing the Body Electric” (excerpt)

I have perceiv’d that to be with those I like is enough,
To stop in company with the rest at evening is enough,
To be surrounded by beautiful, curious, breathing,
laughing flesh is enough,
To pass amoung them, or touch any one, or rest my arm
ever so lightly round his or her neck for a moment —
what is this, then?
I do not ask any more delight — I swim in it, as in a sea.

There is something in staying close to men and women,
and looking on them, and in the contact and odor of
them, that pleases the soul well,
All things please the soul, but these please the soul well.

Don't drop her!

Don't drop her!

They are all on the way to the airport right now…. Andy’s flight is just running a few minutes delayed as far as the website says. Just after they left there was more freezing rain, now it is snowing heavily again! Where is the sunshine? I’m getting worried about losing my magnolia… or a few of the branches. They are bent just about to the limit….

Updated at 5:30 pm: Andy’s flight was cancelled, as were all flights on Southwest, Alaska & Horizon air from Portland. They are on their way back home!
