Another new painting in the “Down on the Farm” series. This painting began with two ideas: bluegrass (the crop) and bluegill… both were some of my favorite parts of summer, walking through the fields and fishing in the small creeks and ponds surrounding our home as a kid. As the painting progressed, the colors shifted toward the greens and golds, though, so I decided to change the title. Perhaps I will try to do another bluegrass and bluegill next time.
I’m talking about the colors changing as if they have a mind of their own, which I guess they did in this case. I just hung on for the ride, and tried to get everything to harmonize. Sometimes you have to deviate from your original idea in order to make the whole painting work. I’m not married to the title “Field and Stream” though. Can you suggest a better one?
On one of the legs of my recent trip, I had a window seat and enjoyed looking down on the farmland and rivers. This painting reminds me of that…beautiful!
Seriously Ruth, you`re on fire!
Thanks Randall 🙂 It is a rich subject matter! I feel like I could paint this series for a long time…
Ruth, I love this series and every painting in it. The title is terrific, reminding me of the magazine of the same name and of times past. You might put a slight twist calling it “Fields and Streams”. I look forward to seeing the next one in the series.
Thanks Hal 🙂 My dad always subscribed to Field & Stream…
Ruth,
Your interesting shapes pulled me in right away.
Thank you Linda!
Yes, very beautiful…the yellow against the cobalt blue….it zings! Waterways….that’s what my eye sees. : )
Thanks Joanie 🙂
