I had to take a break to enjoy the garden today, it was so fragrant! This enormous lily is under my magnolia tree, which is a great scent alone, but combined with these two sweet beauties, it is almost overpowering! I wanted to include the pink asiatic in the shot, because it shows how huge these blooms are.
I’ve been so busy in the studio I haven’t had a chance to post all week. First I’ve been busy preparing my class for Creative Arts Community at Menucha in the Columbia River Gorge. I leave on Sunday, and there is lots to do… supplies to gather, photos to take, slides to organize, handouts, the list goes on.
I’ve also been working on a proposal for a large commission for Salem Hospital. The design committee wants an 11×14″ sketch of my idea for a painting that would be 21′ long and 6’8″ high. It would hang in the gift/coffee shop in the new area of the hospital. There is a long list of characteristics that they are looking for, including:
- colorful
- abstract
- detailed
- positive
- whimsical
- eye catching
- bright
- fresh
- captivating
- intriguing
- distinct
- expressive
- unique
- versatile
- individual
All characteristics that could describe some of my paintings, but I’m not sure all these terms apply to a single painting. I’ve tried to focus on their preferred color scheme of red/orange, greens and purple. I’m purposely not posting the image I came up with until I find out what they decide, so you can imagine what I did. Today I finished my sketch, then wrote up my proposal including what materials I will use, costs, and my vision. It is a big project, which would be a fun challenge and great exposure. So, I will wait to see which artist’s proposal they choose. I am trying to remember they are choosing the proposal and not the person!
All this means I didn’t get to the grocery store, didn’t get the laundry done, all the things that will wait til tomorrow. Nothing like a deadline to get me moving!
I will be gone all next week, so will post when I get back 🙂
