I’ve started getting organized for my Gelli-Arts workshop, sponsored by the Keizer Art Association. If you’ve never heard of Gelli-Printing, it is the latest rage in Mixed Media.

This class is perfect for the creative person who doesn’t necessarily have a lot of experience with painting. Gelli-printing is easy and fun… and creates papers perfect for journaling, collage and painting. You can also fine tune prints that are finished works of art themselves! We will cover some fantastic techniques and experiment with Golden’s new Open Acrylics as well as regular acrylic paints.

This painting is an example of some of the great effects you can get with the gelli plate. I love how sheer the layer of yellows is, and the patterns the gelli-plate added to the painting. Originally the painting looked like this:

The longer it sat in the studio, the less I liked seeing so much green. I also felt like it needed to be unified, and I wasn’t happy with the design of the yellows. My first step was to collage printed rice paper over some of the yellows. Collage really helps me to think more about shape. Then I used the gelli-plate to print directly on the paper to add more yellows and golds, and a circular pattern over the entire surface.
