Whew! The holidays really threw me for a spin as far as art goes….
Book Club, Critiques, family gatherings, Husband’s birthday, decorating, socializing… I think I’m going to become a hermit! (not)
I am ready to get back into the studio though, and did so yesterday! I finally finished my project for Mary Lou Zeek’s 100 artists show: “Inside Out.” Just in time… I have to deliver it tomorrow! This year the auction will benefit Friends of Pimpollo, a group that works for disenfranchised children in Mexico and the Willamette Valley. You can see a video about their work here.
Here are a couple of sneek peeks:
Goat Girl in process
All the Players
One thing that bothers me about working with collage is waiting for things to dry. While I was fidgeting, I decided to take some photos of my studio… 🙂 I always enjoy seeing others’ working spaces, so it’s my turn to share. I didn’t clean up much, though it is much better than when it was occupied by my college junior daughter during Christmas break, lol!
Entrance Hallway, Like the tracklights I installed?

Flat Files, framing area
Makeup Table, Drafting Table
I may be one of the only artists you’ll find with a makeup table in their studio. My daughter uses this room when she is home from college, hence the makeup table, the futon and the storage space everywhere. I love the cart to the right of my drafting table with all the shallow drawers from the Container Store! I can see everything… paints, brushes, mediums, other tools…
Watercolor Palette
Futon & "I-home" music player, Lola on cushion
I wouldn’t stay in the studio as much without my music, and my sweet Lola dog to keep me company!
I have been enjoying other things besides studio time, including my friend Jean Schwalbe’s opening last night at the
Attic Gallery in Portland. My sister & a buddy & I went gallery hopping last night… first time I had attended in a long while. One of my other favorite exhibits was at
PDX with artist Nancy Lorenz. I hope you will check it out & enjoy the simple, exquisite beauty. We also saw the Light Box show at
Beppu Wiarda and loved all the unique applications of light & construction.
That’s all for now, though I hope to be posting more frequently now that I’m back to a routine….
Ruth! So fun to see your studio… it looks like a wonderful place to “be.” Looking forward to seeing your MLZ finished piece… I’m still not quite done and will be late, as usual. Ugh on me.
Thanks Carla! It is a good place to be, lucky me! I love to see other peoples’ work space too. I saw a few of the pieces when I dropped mine off yesterday: very cool. I always look forward to this show, but can’t seem to help the procrastination habit…. too many ideas I guess. I always have a hard time deciding what to do. I’ll look forward to seeing yours too!
