My husband & I made a trip to the Oregon Coast this weekend to fix a window in our vacation home. We had a friend there last weekend working on replacing the deck and they arrived to find the kitchen window busted out. It looked like the intruder had just been looking for a place to get out of the weather. Nothing was missing, but the bed had been slept in and there were beer cans & a lighter by the bed.

We just finished putting new windows on the whole house, so we ordered a new window & went down to replace it this weekend. On Saturday we spent all day at the house, replacing the broken window, cleaning, putting in new motion detector lights, etc. I purchased new blinds for the windows and we went to my father-in-law’s house to spend the night & watch the Oregon State football game against Arizona…. GO BEAVS!

This morning we returned to our place to hang the blinds, and lo & behold, someone had been sleeping in our bed, and they were STILL THERE!  We confronted them, and I called the police. I couldn’t believe it… they were trying to talk us out of calling the police. We’d just gotten done repairing damage from a previous break in, and here they had broken down the back door, busted the glass out of another interior door from the utility room into the kitchen and started packing up our clothes & bedding to take with them.

It turned out to be a man who had worked with our contractor on the siding & windows. He had a woman with him who looked pretty strung out on something. She had a terrible burn on her leg, and her face was pretty badly discolored & pockmarked.  Obviously the guy knew that no one lived there full time & felt that he could get away with robbing us and staying there. I’m just glad we were there. Hopefully this resolves the problem. It’s a good possibility that it was the same person who broke in both times.
