“Harvest Moon” is the most recent in my series “Down on the Farm.” I think this one came together more easily because I had a more specific idea in mind with it. I like the contrast between organic and geometric, and I feel like this really has the feel of warm fields and cool forest and river. Playing with texture and pattern is beginning to feel a bit more normal to me. I finally struck on balancing the composition here by opposing the two yellow shapes and connecting them with the diagonal cooler band. I wanted this one to have an overall happy feeling. Let me know what you think. I enjoy getting your comments.
I’ve been asked to jury the Artists in Action “Something Red” event this year. It is an exhibition of artwork featuring the color RED. (one of my favorite colors!) The show is open to all Oregon artists. Check out their website for a prospectus! What a nice honor 🙂
Hi Ruth, I was looking at your “Fire Line” and up pops this one! Perhaps this one came more easily because of all the work you did on the previous two, sort of a “one thing leads to another”. I do find this one exciting! Congrats on being asked to jury!
Thanks Peggy 🙂 Yes, one thing definitely leads to another. I can’t wait to start the next one 🙂
Ruth, I think you accomplished what you envisioned in this painting. Definitely warm and happy. I love the balance in shapes, color contrasts, and the abstract nature of this bird’s eye view. And congratulations on your invitation to jury!
Thanks Sue, I wish I lived closer & could have gotten to your recent opening!
Hi Ruth, this one works as you planned it. Terrific yellow shapes and strong diagonal. Feels cheerful. Well done!
Hi Ruth, I am finally getting around to blog posts and leaving comments… the colors in your new works are so rich and vibrant and strong… just like you are 🙂
Thanks Donna!
I’m enjoying this series because I too have memories of a childhood farm with forests and rivers running through it. This is my favourite piece. You have captured the happiness and contentment that I feel when thinking about that time in my life. Many of my carvings are inspired by my memories of endless hours spent on nature rambles.
Thank you Robyn! It was a wonderful way to grow up, wasn’t it!
This is a cool painting. I love the birds and the river and the overall theme. Nice.
How fun that you see birds! Now I am trying to find them!
