Ok.. picking up where I left off last night. Several people have asked what happened with the Salem Hospital commission. Well, the bad news is they chose another artist, Alison O’Donoghue . When I read all those descriptors, though, hers was the work I thought of. The good news is, they paid me to do the proposal (it was nice to get the check) and they may still consider my work for another place in the hospital. It was a good stretch to work on the proposal & the submittal letter.
I Got home from Menucha & just felt like I was getting caught up, (including finishing my latest read… Richard Russo’s Bridge of Sighs, only to leave again for another Splash art retreat! This time we went to my friend Kara’s beautiful home on Detroit Lake, just east of Salem.
I still need to photograph the painting I worked on… will post it after Odette’s lesson this morning.
As soon as I got back, it was time to ramp up preparations for Amelia’s departure for college. I dropped her off yesterday! It was such a beautiful day, and the campus looked so inviting. I was really wishing it were me, off on a new adventure. Of course I am dying to hear how it is going. We’ve sent a few text messages (she forgot her hair dryer) and I will see her tomorrow on my way to the coast. But I am anxious to hear her voice today. I haven’t met her roommate yet, and she had quite a bit of anxiety about that.
Her room is amazingly large. A seperate area for studying and one for sleeping, so if one roomie wants to study late, it won’t disturb the other. We are going to add a comfy chair, now that we know she has room. I was dying to take pictures, but my husband had my camera. 🙁
Your stunning photos of Menucha took me right back for a little mini-fantasy vacation. Thanks.
Our kayaking time, the beauty of the lake and sharing it with friends was great. Do we get to see Ruth kayaking on this blog? I will send you the jpg.
Thanks Linda! Thanks for the jpeg and the friendly advice 🙂 You are a true mentor!

Hi Ruth,
I’m really enjoying your mix of art and day to day life. I’ll definitely keep reading.
As to rafting, we’ve always done our own planning, buying, packing, hauling, setting up, cooking, clean up, etc. I’ve not taken a guided trip so I can’t compare the two experiences. Doing it all is hard work, but satisfying, too.
Sorry your work didn’t get accepted into the WSO work. Another time, another judge!
Margaret
Thanks Margaret!
I’m enjoying your blog too 🙂 Just comparing camping and the guided trip, I’d say i really prefer the guided trips! Of course the cost is higher… the only drawback. The good news is my other entry was accepted in NWWS’s Waterworks show. You win some, you lose some 🙂
