On Monday I spent the day with my daughter & art buddy Randall Tipton at my mother’s farm near Albany. We really lucked out with the weather… cool breezes, sunshine and temps in the upper 70’s. It was the perfect day to paint on location. I have such wonderful memories of spending summer afternoons on the river. Peace, birdsong, and poison oak. Luckily, we didn’t get close enough to the poison oak to be affected! You can see Randall’s interpretation of the scene here. His is more simplified and abstracted… something I’m working toward. I had to make some big adjustments to this painting back in the studio this week, but I’m pretty happy with how it came out.
TerraSkin paper was a new experience. It is non-absorbent, similar in properties to yupo, but it hangs on to the paint a bit more so that layering is easier. I think I’m going to like working on it!
I’ve also been working on getting sign-ups for my October workshop at Art & Soul art retreat in Portland, Oregon. Here’s a little video my daughter & I put together yesterday to get you excited to take this class!
You pulled it out Ruth! Very impressive! It was a perfect day and you painting reflects that.
This is gorgeous. I especially like the shadowowy feeling along the water. It was great fun to see how you and Randall interpreted this scene. You are both so talented.
Thanks Hal! You should have seen it in process… it was a hot mess 🙂 Somehow I do better when remembering the location with just a few references. Luckily this new surface is very forgiving 🙂
