It has been a busy weekend here in Oregon City! Friday night I had my opening at Blenda Tyvoll’s Victorhill Farm, just up the road. It was a very nice party and we were busy all evening. I had some nice sales, and a lot of fun too! Thanks to everyone who attended!
Then yesterday I spent most of the day there, visiting with customers. Later in the evening, one of my clients phoned me wondering where I was! They had the hours mixed up & were expecting Friday night’s party on Saturday… oops! I felt terrible that they had driven all the way from the west side of town with their friends, so I asked them to stop by.
Early in the morning, I got up & switched all the clocks back and did the morning farm chores. I scattered corn for the chickens, then came in for my morning coffee and email session. Imagine my surprise as I sat down at the computer. I looked up from my desk to see a large white horse and dark brown mule eating the corn off the floor of the barn!
We don’t own any horses or mules, so I wondered where in the world they’d come from! I woke up my poor husband & we went out (me in my bathrobe) to try to corral them in the pasture… without the aid of ropes or halters.
Finally we got them in after employing ample buckets of grain! We had to try to track down their owners next.
We followed the trail of manure down the road and found where we thought they lived, but no one answered the door on a Sunday morning. We kept knocking on doors till we found someone at home, and he happened to be the brother of the owners. One phone call and we had our link.
I think these guys had heard about our recent rooster adoptions, and found out that we serve good food here 🙂 Here is a pic of the roosters that we took in. They were dumped on the road below us at our neighbors’. After more than a week without food, they are living the high life in our hen house… courting all the hens and crowing like mad. I thought one might be a hen, but no such luck. They are a funny looking bunch 🙂 Just before I took off for the show on Sunday I had a hawk attack on the chickens… Maybe the roosters will serve as protectors? Hope so!
Always great to get a slice of your life…can envision you corralling horses in your bathrobe.
How about these names for your dandies: Cocka, Doodle and Doo
So glad you enjoyed your show and sales at Victorhill Farm with Blenda.
Thanks Linda 🙂 It was a pretty funny sight. I’ve also had a suggestion of Cluck, Luck, and Chuck for the dandy roosters. So far they have been pretty mellow, as roosters go. We will see how long that lasts. I have a feeling they are young ones.
It is good you are so flexible! So sweet of you to embrace what came your way instead of getting all flustered!
Love it! I’ve been dreaming about a country life lately where I could have a few chickens and grow fields of lavender…Ahhh, someday.
If I ever do maybe you can show me the ropes. Happy Painting!
