Before Christmas I started a new large Oil & Wax abstract and posted my beginning. I continued to take photos of the painting as it progressed. I finally think it is finished today! You can see the various stages of the creative process below.

Work in Progress – Abstract Beginning

I began with a high ‘horizon’ line to match the format of my earlier painting. Dividing up the rest of the space, I focused on line and shape, keeping the values fairly close. Each successive layer of color is shown below.

I love the ability with Oil painting to change my mind about color and shape - and the layers actually provide more richness and patina. My recent focus on composition with my Wednesday class started to creep in here: Can you see the traces of the Fibonacci Spiral starting to appear here?

I painted this panel to coordinate with “Crossover.” Here is how they look together.

I have exciting news! My abstract Oil & Wax paintings will be included in the Attic Gallery‘s February Show of Abstract paintings. I hope you’ll join me for the opening reception: Thursday, February 5th, 5 -8 p.m.
