Happy Independence Day! Here in Oregon we are lucky to have a day with No Sign of Rain to celebrate! In farming, the weather can make or break you, especially during harvest season. I began this with the idea of a clear day, combined with harvest tones from the fields. There is something about the smell of hay and later, after it has dried and been threshed, the smell of straw, that always reminds me of home.
Here is a photo of the painting in process. I love how cold wax and oil give me the ability to almost completely change an image. I kind of miss some of the vertical scratching in the early stages of the piece, but I can repeat that in another painting.
I hope you all have a wonderful 4th of July celebration! Thank you for visiting my little slice of the internet.
