Just a reminder that you can view a couple of my paintings at two prestigious exhibitions in two different states this summer.

The first is the California Watercolor Association’s 41st National Exhbition. The show will run July 14 through September 19 at Gallery Concord, 1765 Galindo Ave., Concord, CA 94520, phone (925) 691-6140 for hours. If you’re in the Bay Area, check it out!

Rocky Mountain National Watermedia
September 11–October 31
Opening Reception and Awards Presentation
Friday, September 10, 5:30–8 pm
The 37th Annual Rocky Mountain National Watermedia exhibition boasts an innovative and fresh approach to
Foothills Art Center’s nationally-renowned, longest-running exhibition, with nearly 50 new artists and imaginative
artwork that pushes the boundaries of watermedia.
This year’s Rocky Mountain National Watermedia exhibition (RMNW) expands the viewer’s perception of what watermedia can do, with more than 80 dynamic and groundbreaking works on display, all featuring widely-varied
subject matter and techniques from top watermedia artists across the nation. To accommodate the breadth of this comprehensive exhibition, FAC will alter its gallery space with new walls designed exclusively for this exhibition.
Visitors to RMNW will be captivated by this year’s spectacular selections and their striking presentation in
the newly-constructed gallery space.
Challenging the traditional watercolor exhibition, this year’s RMNW showcases paintings in a variety of water-based mediums, such as acrylic, transparent watercolor, ink, pen and ink resist. Innovative methods explored include use of the synthetic surface, yupo, which can be found in RMNW artist Marcio Correa’s Parallel Lives. Correa’s work defies traditional watercolor in that the paint rests, rather than absorbs, into the surface, creating a much more fluid, vibrant image. (* My work in this show also utilizes Yupo)
Parallel Lives is but one example of many inventive and distinct approaches on display. A professional watercolorist for 14 years, nationally-recognized juror Judy Morris said of her selections, “Many of the selected paintings caught my attention with outstanding design or great color chords. Others provoked a respect for meaningful content or an unusual view of an ordinary subject. […] I looked closely at each entry for evidence of well-developed skills and a thoughtful painting process.” Morris has received more than fifty national and regional awards, and has been included in exhibitions throughout the United States.
