“Time is a river that sweeps me along, but I am the river; it is a tiger which destroys me, but I am the tiger; it is a fire which consumes me, but I am the fire.” – Jorge Luis Borges
This painting was already posted earlier under the title “Necessary Exile.” As I continued to refine it, I decided to change the title to “Time is a River.”
Here is a photo of the earlier version:
You can see that I’ve broken up the white area on the upper right by adding some turquoise and yellow-orange shapes. I’ve also added a small gold shape near where the vertical on the right intersects with the large organic shape 2/3 of the way down. I extended the yellowish circular pattern along the left edge to move further into the dark area.
Fine tuning a painting like this often takes a long time of rest between the initial stages and the final stages. What began in January or February is only now coming to a stage of final completion. Perhaps I shared it too early!
Anyway, I’m glad to finally have finished it. I hope you enjoy looking! Do you like the changes I’ve made? Do you often take a long time to finish a work? Leave me a comment and share this post. I appreciate interacting with you here.
Happy Mother’s Day to all you moms out there!
Ruth, I think your “Time Is a River” is an elegant, challenging work, especially with
the changes you made! Thanks for sharing it. Marianne
Thank you Marianne! Hope your painting is going well 🙂
It’s inspiring to watch the process you use to complete a painting (for now:)). I love the way you’ve incorporated the right side through incorporating colors and shapes. It feels contained but not trapped. Love it!
Thanks Margaret! It helps to have a friend to give you a thoughtful critique!
