This has been a week for good news! First, I learned on Saturday that my painting ‘Explorer’ was accepted for the Northwest Watercolor Society’s Waterworks Exhibition coming up next month. The juror was Christopher Schink.

This painting is a departure for me, but I think it is a direction that I will pursue more fully. I like how the content remains mysterious, yet hopeful and deeply symbolic. I enjoyed working in a more surrealistic way: combining different photographic resources and imagination. It was so nice to finally receive an acceptance letter rather than a rejection! Here is the schedule for the show.

A friend from Montana emailed me and we are planning to attend the reception together, which should be lots of fun. I haven’t seen her in a couple of years, and it will be fun to get together! I’m also looking forward to connecting with art buddies at the Watercolor Society of Oregon convention this weekend in McMinnville! I have a guest from Bend staying with me, and plan to connect with friends from all over the state.

I will be helping to hang the artwork on Thursday at the Evergreen Aviation Museum. It is always a challenge to find a place to hang 80 watercolors. If you happen to be in Oregon, though, it is a good chance to see the huge spectrum of work being done in watercolor today, and see a fascinating museum at the same time!  The show opens here Saturday night, October 3, with an artists reception.

Finally, yesterday we received some good news about our pending property purchase. We’ve been struggling with issues regarding legal access to the property, and it looks like we may finally be seeing light at the end of the tunnel. I spent yesterday consulting with an engineer at the property and the county offices, planning, permits and engineering trying to sort through the maze of getting a driveway permit. Once we have a permit, we can estimate the cost to put in a driveway and figure out who is going to pay for it. This transaction has required so much patience, but visiting the property yesterday reaffirmed to me that it will be worth it. I’m hoping to be moving in soon!
