What inspires your art? My good friend, Alice Bonham, is inspired by wanting to make our world a better place. Her work as a graphic designer and a fine artist has focused recently on a project designed to spark discussion, action and transformation in the world. She has created a wonderful series of work inspired by the Millennium Development Goals set out by the United Nations.
Each goal has inspired an image. You can visit her home page: Plus One Project.net to view all of the images and see comments by the artist. The above image is a cropped version of the poster for “Cherish the Earth, Air & Water.” Alice’s designs are humorous, colorful, moving examples of love in action. As she worked on this series, she asked herself the question: “What would make the goals personal and lead people to action?”
Often when I consider a large concept like the Millennium Development Goals, I am boggled about Where to Begin! Alice has jumped right in and focused her efforts on what she does best: artwork. Her drawings are quirky and funny images of animals interacting with each other and the world. The symbolism of each animal is intentional and thought-provoking.
The Millennium Development Goals are about:
- Overcoming Extreme Hunger & Poverty
- Unleashing Potential- Educate Children
- Advocating Equality and Empowering Women
- Ending Child Mortality
- Embracing Maternal Health
- Defying Malaria, HIV/Aids and Other Diseases
- Cherishing the Earth, Air & Water
- Partnering for Fair Markets & Development
There is an additional poster that sums up the project: Love Each Other. I hope this post has brightened your day enough to inspire you to visit the site and embark on your own quest to make the world a better place. Share, create, inspire…
When ONE person adds ONE action and that action expands into the world, there is transformation. That’s the Plus One Project. I hope you will take time to enjoy her website and share it with your friends. Who knows what this inspiration might lead to? What will your one voice add?
Wonderful work! Sharing!
Thanks Becki! Alice has put so much time, money and energy into this project. I’d love to see it go viral!
