We are finding ourselves housebound with the snow & ice that have hit the pacific northwest. Yesterday my daughter & I cleaned & organized the spice & baking cupboard! It was sorely needed, hadn’t been emptied since we moved in 19 years ago this month. We consolidated spices that were duplicates, threw out old or unused ones, wiped down the shelves, made a list for baking this week, and just got generally organized. What a great feeling. No more hunting for the oregano when I’m in the middle of the lasagne!

I also got about 1/2 way through The Story of Edgar Sawtelle.
I had started it at about 2 am one morning last week when I woke & couldn’t get back to sleep. Yum. I love a good long story on a cold day.

Today I’m planning a brisk (brr!) walk and some studio time. I’m hoping I can persuade Erin that we can organize her closet like we did the spice cupboard, and restore a bit of order to the studio (it has been invaded by the return of the college student!) I will try to post pictures later this week. I also have some wrapping to do. Sadly I’m not done with my Christmas shopping yet, and I don’t think I can get out to do any. i guess it will add to the hustle & bustle.

I’m also looking forward to seeing Susan Tuttle’s new book Exhibition 36: Mixed Media Demonstrations and Explorations.
She’s hosting a giveaway on her blog here tomorrow! I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it might be me that wins… I am a huge fan of her work… and her blog is a true inspiration, artful photos of the creative life.

I’ve been so worried about my resident hummingbird… the feeder has been freezing up. This morning I brought it in and thawed it out, refilling it with very warm feeding solution. he was so hungry he was on it before I even got it hung up on the tree. But i haven’t seen him since…. I hope the warm solution wasn’t too much of a shock!  Update: he’s back with his mate! 🙂
