Yesterday I celebrated autumn with a huge bonfire of some of the yard debris we’ve created since moving to the farm. I wish I’d gotten a photo of the conflagration at its peak… the heat near the fire and the cool air away from the fire were like night and day, like the cool mornings and warm afternoons we’ve been having. I’ve been thinking about the dichotomy of dark and light recently. I am maybe a bit unusual in that I love both the earlier darkness and the crystalline lights that fall brings.
I’d like to share some of the things I love about the light in autumn and images that remind me of them:

Hi Ruth, There is something magical about fall, isn’t there? Maybe it’s something about the Northwest, but I think it’s magical. The colors can be brilliant. It’s a sort of bittersweet time too, with winter just around the corner. Wonderful article and lovely photos.
